The Detroit Lions: Underachieving to say the least

I’ve been waiting to write a post on the Detroit Lions because they’ve been incredibly frustrating to watch and last night was obviously as frustrating as usual.  The special teams have been nothing short of embarrassing, and they were quite honestly, very lucky to beat the Philadelphia Eagles last week.

The loss against the Vikings prior to the bye week, following the loss to the Titans was purely crippling.  Back-to-back weeks giving up a kick return touchdown and a punt return touchdown was the first time it had ever happened in the NFL.  The defense has looked good, but the offensive play calling has been utterly pathetic.  Titus Young has been nothing short of bad so far this year, and has contributed to the underachieving on offense.

Why I consider Michigan State to be Michigan’s Little Brother.

This philosophy that I have actually ignores academics and athletics altogether.  It’s documented that Michigan is a better school and that Michigan leads them in every major sports Win-Loss record.  Yes, even in Basketball.

No this philosophy is something a bit deeper, it’s because of a mindset.  I consider Michigan State to be Michigan’s little brother because at least 50% of the Spartan fan base cares about nothing other than beating Michigan year in and year out.  They would sacrifice Big Ten and National Championships to beat Michigan ever year.  If Michigan State went 1-11, and the win was against Michigan, they would be content.

The BCS Computer Polls are shameful

The computer polls are a joke.  They’re labelled with garbage statements like “unbiased,” and talk about their formulas and how they’re better than people voters, but they’re not.  They’re just as bad.  Any poll that has Kansas State #1 or Notre Dame #1, should be immediately disqualified and the person that created it should be deported to North Korea.  Honestly though, why won’t common sense play a factor in any of the polls?

The BCS has a huge description on the rules and how the polls are accounted for on this website, and thankfully, the poll drops the highest and lowest rankings for teams in the computer polls.  Here it is for the lazy people.

The AP Poll Olympics: Week 8

I would like to personally thank the South Carolina Gamecocks and the West Virginia Mountaineers, along with the referees in South Bend and the media for allowing Notre Dame fans to think that they are relevant again, and for having the results allow them to be ranked disgustingly high.

For the last time, I will not consider Notre Dame relevant again, until they make it to a BCS game OR if they win a bowl game against a RANKED opponent.  And this is at the very LEAST.  Going around and beating bad teams does not make you relevant.  Think about this for a second, Michigan turned the ball over 6 times, three times in the red zone, and they only won by a touchdown, at home.  Notre Dame went to overtime, and beat a terribly overrated Stanford team without Andrew Luck on a controversial call, also at home.  Beat Oklahoma or USC on the road, or do what I said above, and we’ll talk.

Michigan vs. Illinois: The Drubbing

These are the types of games you dream of when the weather is bad.  With how much rain was coming down, I was expecting a lot of fumbles and miscues.  But obviously the offense planned for such weather, and Denard only threw the ball 11 times.  I mean, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, why bother throwing it when you can run as well as he can?

The AP Poll Olympics: Week 7

Some people will never cease to amaze me.  The sheer ignorance and stupidity that radiates from them is damn near impressive.  And between sports and politics there is never a shortage of it either.

Michigan vs. Purdue: Exactly what I hoped for

First off, don’t forget to check out diehardsport.com.  There’s a lot of great content over there, and I think a bunch of you would like it.  Also, a huge thanks to Bryan Thomas for helping get this site up and running again, could not have done it with out him and I’m sorry I didn’t thank him sooner.

Second off, these are the types of weekends that are great.  Michigan has a nice easy win, the Lions were on a bye week so I couldn’t get upset by them losing, and the Tigers won both their playoff games.

The Michigan offense should be run like that every week; it’s just the way it has to be.  Fitzgerald Toussaint has been nothing short of awful this year.  I mean, 18 carries for 20 yards?  Sure he had two touchdowns, but those were short goal line carries.  I’m fairly certain that most of the people I know could get 20 yards on 18 carries; for all the math wizards that’s 1.1 yards per carry.  Fitz is way better when he is a downhill runner, but there aren’t any holes open on the inside of the line.  Then, he tries to bounce the ball outside and loses yards, it is becoming a vicious cycle.  This is what happens when you lose the best center in the country.

Back up and running

There will still be some tweaks coming to the site as time goes on, but as of the moment, everything seems to be in working order.  This post is going to be a compilation of a few things, so bear with me.

We’re about three or four hours away from Miguel Cabrera becoming the first triple crown winner in 45 years, which is purely awesome.  I think him winning the triple crown is a way bigger deal than the Tigers making the playoffs, even though its the first time they’ve done it back-to-back since like the 1930s.  If I could only choose one, I would rather see the triple crown, because well, the Tigers losing doesn’t really bother me (sorry), and with their relief pitching all but guarantees they won’t win a world series.  Plus, who knows when anyone will be this close to a triple crown ever again.  If he doesn’t win the AL MVP, I will literally lose any respect that I still had for the MLB.  It will just prove that league is a complete sham and the awards that aren’t based on statistics, they are a popularity contest.
