Yesterday, I said that Shane Morris had been diagnosed with mononucleosis and was going to miss some time. But now according to a Detroit Free Press report, that “some time” has turned into the rest of the season. Morris’ coach is quoted saying that Morris is out this week for sure, and that he is not optimistic about Morris returning at all this season.
This would be a turn for the worst for the five-star quarterback, as it is being said that he was hospitalized for mono earlier this week. The Warren De La Salle Pilots are 2-2 this year, while Morris is 40 for 83 for 456 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. This illness could explain the drop in his play, and if he is out for the rest of the year, I would expect the recruiting services to drop his five-star status. It will also be interesting to see if he is healthy by the Under Armour All-American game, will he still get to play in it? Or would they revoke his invite because he could miss so many games? While the rest of his high school career may be up in the air, he can still look forward to getting on campus at Michigan next fall.
