Detroit Lions Free Agency Recap

I was trying to wait as long as I could in the event that the Detroit Lions made more moves but Martin Mayhew said on Monday that they are done making any more major Free Agent moves.  I’m still holding out hope that the Lions will make a play for another defensive end and get another starting linebacker but it probably won’t be a big name player if they do.

The Lions made a huge splash in free agency and have set themselves up pretty nicely for the 2013-2014 season.

The Winners of the NFL Scouting Combine

There were a lot of winners at this years NFL Scouting Combine.  It was tough for me to limit this list, but I managed to cut it to 13, which is still a lot.  There were still many players not on this list that deserved to be mentioned and so naturally, I added an honorable mention list at the end.  Many players came out and exceeded expectations during drills and showed that they deserve more attention than they have been getting.  To see my Mock Draft and where these players might go, click here.

The Losers of the NFL Scouting Combine

Just like there are players at the NFL Scouting Combine that raise their stock, there will always be players that lower their stock by turning in poor workouts or having poor interviews.  The players aren’t ranked in any particular order (well other than alphabetical order), but these guys need a good showing at their Pro Days in order to turn things around.  To see my first Mock Draft of the year, click here.

NFL Scouting Combine Recap Day 3: Defensive Linemen and Linebackers

There were quite a few defensive linemen and linebackers that saw their stock see a boost during their Combine session on Monday.

Florida DT Sharrif Floyd and Oregon DE Dion Jordan absolutely killed it.  DE Ziggy Ansah of BYU and DE Margus Hunt of SMU also had massive days, while DE Corey Lemonier of Auburn turned in a solid day.  Floyd has looked like a Top 5 prospect lately, especially with Star Lotulelei’s heart condition.  At 6’3″ 297 lbs, Floyd ran a 4.92 forty, and looked very quick in drills.  He had the quick twitch that coaches look for and was very quick off the ball.  He showed good balance and played very low, his stock is definitely on the rise.

Project 135 and what it means for Michigan recruiting

Somehow this post was saved as a draft and never published.  The story is somewhat old at this point but here it is nonetheless with some updates.

Michigan commit Shane Morris was always out in public and was trying to recruit players to join him at Michigan.  He set the standard for leadership for future recruits, and their job of trying to get talent to come with them to the school they are committed too.  He’s passed the position onto 2014 commits LB Michael Ferns and QB Wilton Speight.  Ferns has apparently taken the position with serious enthusiasm and has shown he is a leader.

The Drastic NHL Realignment to Four Conferences is a Terrible Idea, so here’s a better plan

This is one of the worst ideas that the NHL has had in a while.  I have hated the idea of unbalanced conferences since it was brought up and I still hate it.  I hate the idea of two conferences having eight teams, and two of them having seven teams.  I’m assuming that they will make it so the top 8 teams from the Eastern side and the Western side make it, but it will be extremely bush league if they make it so the Top 4 teams from each division make the playoffs.  It would give teams in the divisions of seven a huge advantage, because there would be fewer teams battling for the same amount of spots.

NFL Scouting Combine Recap Day 2: Quarterbacks, Wide Receivers, Running Backs

This is definitely the most popular day at the Scouting Combine amongst the fans because it is the “sexy” day where all the important offensive skill players show off their athleticism.

Texas WR Marquise Goodwin and West Virginia WR Tavon Austin were definitely two of the most talked about guys throughout the day after they posted 4.25 unofficial 40-yard-dash times.  The times were adjusted and Goodwin’s official time was a 4.27, while Tavon Austin’s was a 4.34.  Either way, both of them turned head’s and Austin definitely boosted his stock.  Goodwin still has questions about his ability to catch the football, but Austin turned in a great workout and it is well-documented that he can catch.

Denard Robinson’s NFL Scouting Combine Recap

Denard Robinson has been one of the most intriguing NFL prospects this offseason.  He is one of the few quarterback prospects in the history of the NFL that has been completely and 100% willing to change positions in order to somehow make it to the NFL.

NFL Scouting Combine Recap Day 1: Offensive Linemen, Tight Ends, Special Teamers

Saturday marked the first day of on-field drills for the NFL Scouting Combine.  Players had been put through an array of medical exams, as well as interviews and a few off-field measurements such as height, weight, and bench press.

The NFL Scouting Combine consists of 11 groups each holding certain positions that take the field for drills over the course of four days. Group one has kickers, special teamers, and some offensive linemen. Group two is all offensive linemen, and group three is the tight ends. Groups four and five consist of quarterbacks and wide receivers, and the running backs are in group six. Groups seven and eight consist of defensive linemen and group nine has the linebackers. Groups 10 and 11 hold the defensive backs.
