Jim Harbaugh Is Officially Michigan’s Head Coach…Officially

It still has not quite clicked for me yet. Even after typing that headline, and seeing the press conference (embedded near the end), it all seems very surreal. I was very adamant from the start that Jim Harbaugh would remain in the NFL. I did not see any way that he would come back to college without winning a Lombardi Trophy. I was very wrong, and I couldn’t be more happy about it. I’m sorry to those that I doubted (specifically the Cornicelli brothers, not you, Matt) and it is awesome that Michigan got their guy. Who knows if they could have had him the last go around, when Michigan hired Hoke. It is possible if they had fired Rich Rodriguez right away that he would have come, but waiting around until after the bowl game and the fact that Dave Brandon is a control freak certainly made it impossible. But, that’s neither here nor there at this point, Jim Harbaugh is now Michigan’s head football coach. Thankfully.

Brady Hoke Has Been Fired: What Now?

I’ll have a full recap of the season up at some point, but now it’s time to discuss the most important piece of news. Brady Hoke has been fired.

It’s unfortunate that it came down to this. A guy that showed so much promise with his opening press conference and his first season with Rich Rodriguez’s players, eventually went up in flames. It’s too bad, he seemed like the perfect man for the job. He was a nice guy, genuinely cared about the kids, had a deep love for the school, and it was his so-called dream job. He did a good job of saying all the right things that the boosters wanted to hear about Michigan. He brought back former players to talk to the team and recruited with the best of them. Unfortunately in the end, it just wasn’t meant to be and the results were never seen on the field. I do feel bad for him, how could you not?

College Football Playoff: It Should Have Been 8 Teams From The Start

For the first time ever I went an entire month without a post and I’m going to try to make sure that doesn’t happen again. I should have some more time to post soon and will have some good posts upcoming, including finally writing about the Lions, so stay tuned.

When the College Football Playoff was first announced, I was ecstatic; just like everyone else. But, I was not a fan of it only being a four-team playoff. No, not because of the reasons that people are mentioning now, at least not initially. I wanted an eight-team playoff so that it would eventually evolve into a 16-team playoff. I wanted as many teams as possible involved because as much as I love Bowl Season, there is nothing better than a tournament to determine the National Champion. Plus, just because there is a playoff would not mean they would have to get rid of bowl games. They made that abundantly clear with the current set up they have now. But, the people in charge of it do not want that many playoff teams. They say it’s so the athletes don’t miss that much school, but that’s a total joke. I don’t see anyone objecting to March Madness. And if they think it’s too many games and don’t want players to get hurt, the absolute maximum they would play is 16 games, which is the same length as an NFL regular season. So what’s the real reason? That it would take away from the regular season and make it meaningless? Lol, no data to support that.

Michigan vs. Minnesota: The Sky Is Falling And Brady Hoke Doesn’t Know It

A year ago I wrote that I thought that the sky may be falling after the UConn game…oh how wrong I was. I can honestly say now that the sky is falling. This program is at the point of no return it seems and it still hasn’t hit rock bottom…yet. Before the season started, I had heard that the coaches had some concerns about this upcoming season, but I can’t imagine they thought it would end up like this. I figured they would be worried they would be 9-3 with losses to their 3 major rivals, not 2-3 before October. I look at the schedule and there are no winnable games/guaranteed wins left…not if they keep playing like they have been. Could you imagine a 2-10 Michigan Football team? The thought makes me want to puke. I was thinking 5-7 worst case scenario after Notre Dame, but now I don’t even know how they will get 3 more wins.

Michigan Football: When It Rains, It Pours

I can’t help but look at this photo and think it’s a high school football game. After the rain delay, this was all that was left at Michigan Stadium. This certainly looks like the death of an elite football program to me.

As I sat there in the pouring rain, waiting for the game to be suspended after seeing lightning, I couldn’t help but think, this is how it all ends for Brady Hoke. Soaking wet, in a weather delay, following another offensive turnover. The offense has turned into a turnover machine that couldn’t find the end zone with a god damn GPS.

Fantasy Football Is A Roller Coaster Of Emotions

I always try to make good on my bets. Unfortunately, Fantasy Football is not always the best thing to place bets on since you have little to no control on the outcome. Few things provide an emotional roller coaster like it and I love it.

Despite a valiant effort from the Patriots defense to help my sorry team and my poor decisions, I was bested by Nick Daigneau and his team. His running backs are heinous, but my receivers are worse…at least they were during this contest. I’ll have my revenge in the playoffs…hopefully.

And as a reminder, don’t sit your studs…damn Philip Rivers.

Michigan vs. App State Recap: We Can Run The Ball?

So this took a little longer to compile than I wanted, but this week was busy (shocker I know).

Okay, yes, it’s only Appalachian State, but still. After being completely unable to run the football last year, the fact that they could run down the field without getting tackled in the backfield every time was awesome. Yes, most of their rushing yards were on about 5 big runs, but that’s what you need, game-breaking runs.

Detroit Lions 2014-2015 Season Preview

The Detroit Lions are always an enigma. Looking at the roster on paper, you would think that the playoffs are guaranteed. But after watching them in the preseason, I’m less encouraged. Sure, it’s just the preseason but the secondary looked like complete garbage, and the offensive execution was less than ideal; even if Calvin Johnson wasn’t playing much. I’m not a fan of Jim Caldwell, but I think that the new offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi is going to do a good job when they don’t have a vanilla game plan. I also enjoyed how aggressive the front seven of the defense was during the preseason with Teryl Austin’s playcalling, but the starting corners make me extremely worried. Blake Bortles went 70 yards with no timeouts in less than two minutes like he was back in college playing Akron or Temple.
